rimfire-ammunition

Rimfire ammunition is a type of metallic cartridge for firearms in which the primer is housed within a hollow circumferential rim protruding from the casing’s base. When the gun is fired, the firing pin strikes and crushes the rim against the edge of the barrel breech, sparking the primer compound within the rim and igniting the propellant within the case. Louis-Nicolas Flobert invented it in 1845.
